Practices for the 2023 fastpitch softball season at Trenton High School began Monday morning, with 24 young ladies beginning their preparations for the season, one that the Lady Bulldogs hope to see the program rise to the glory of past seasons.
Prior to the season opening trip to Cameron for the two-day Cameron Tournament (August 25th and 26th), Trenton will participate in the Putnam County High School jamboree on Saturday, August 19th.
Last season, Trenton showed steady improvement throughout the season, and despite falling short of a district title, the Bulldogs showed that they would be a force to be reckoned with in 2023, taking an early lead against eventual Class 2 state champion Marceline in district play before bowing out in a 7-3 final on October 13th.
From that team, no losses were suffered via graduation, as no seniors were on last year’s squad. Returning as head coach of the tradition-rich Lady Bulldog program is Madi Stillwell:
Trenton should have a good idea as to their ability to compete for a Grand River Conference title by mid-September, with a trip to play Polo on September 14th. South Harrison plays Trenton at Mark Griffin Field two days earlier, on Tuesday, September 12th. Trenton’s regular season tournaments will be at Maysville on September 9th and LaPlata on September 30th, with THS hosting the NCMC Nan Carter event on September 23rd.
Trenton will host Chillicothe on Senior Night (October 9th), finishing up a three-game homestand to finish the regular season. THS will have numerous road tests, with a trip to Marceline on October 2nd, Princeton on September 26th, Lawson on September 18th, and Hamilton on September 11th. The GRC opener will be at Putnam County on Tuesday, August 29th.
