The Trenton Bulldogs, having struggled out of the gate with inconsistency and errors, put the pieces together on Wednesday afternoon, in a tidy 5-2 win at Pattonsburg, giving THS (1-6) its first win of the 2018 baseball season.
Senior right-hander Hunter Dugan held Pattonsburg to two runs and seven hits over seven innings of work, earning the victory, striking out three batters, with the Bulldog defense committing only one error, a vast improvement from play earlier in the season. Dugan fired 96 pitches, 58 of those for strikes.
Avery Cooksey and Jaren Whitney led the Trenton offense, as Cooksey was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Whitney was 1-for-3 with 3 RBI’s. Cole Schilling was 2-for-2 and Quincy Griffin 1-for-3, with both driving in one run.
THS opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the 1st inning, with Pattonsburg tying the game with single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings. The Bulldogs rebounded with two runs in the 4th, and an insurance tally in the top of the 7th.
Trenton is now off for Easter weekend, with a trip to Green City coming up on Thursday, April 5th.
