The Gallatin Lady Bulldogs, on their way to a championship in Class 1, District 12, held off a strong challenge by Grundy R-5 in the semifinal round, winning Friday afternoon by a score of 4-1.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th inning, when GHS scraped across a rum against Grundy County starter Matana Munday. In the top of the 5th inning, the Lady Panthers tied the game, with Zoe Littleton driven home on a sacrifice fly by Kendra Johnson. However, Gallatin was able to pull away from the upset-minded Grundy team, scoring a run in the 5th, and two more in the 6th for the winning margin.
Littleton finished 3 for 4 with a double, two singles, and a stolen base for Grundy R-5, while Johnson was 1 for 3 with a single. Munday fired six innings at the Lady Bulldogs, striking out six batters, walking six, but allowing only four hits.
Coach Jessica Parsons, reflecting on her team’s final game of the softball season said, “I was very happy with the girls played. The girls played their best ball at the end of the season and I couldn’t be more proud. I’m looking forward to next season.”
Gallatin went on to beat Green City in Saturday’s championship game at Galt to advance to the Class 1 state playoffs. On Wednesday night, the Lady Bulldogs will host the Knox County Lady Eagles in the sectional round.
