“Coach Prime” to undergo surgery for blood clots in both legs

Deion Sanders, the head football coach at the University of Colorado and former NFL player, revealed that he is scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday for blood clots in both of his legs. The news of the surgery spread after it was discussed on Pat McAfee’s podcast with former NFL player Adam Jones, referring to it as an emergency procedure.

Sanders took to YouTube to post a video to address the situation personally. He explained that his doctor found blood clots in both legs, including one in his left thigh. Sanders has been dealing with complications related to blood clots since having two toes amputated in 2021 while at Jackson State. He mentioned that two of his remaining toes on his left foot have a condition known as “hammer toes,” where there is an abnormal bend in the middle joint.

The surgery on Friday aims to address the blood clots and restore proper blood flow to his leg so that the issues with his toes can be resolved. Last week, Sanders had revealed the possibility of losing his left foot due to circulation problems. However, he clarified in his video that there is currently no talk of amputation.

Sanders expressed gratitude for the support and well-wishes he has received and assured everyone that he is committed to his role as the head football coach at the University of Colorado. The interest in Colorado football has grown since Sanders was hired in December to lead the program’s turnaround following a difficult 1-11 season in 2022. The team has sold out its season-ticket allotment for the first time since 1996.
