CHS Hornets sweep Benton Relays, Trenton’s Rottman wins 1600, girls win 4 by 400 relay

The Chillicothe girls and boys track teams picked up victories on Tuesday afternoon at the annual Benton Relays in St. Joseph, with the Lady Hornets amassing 120 points to outscore runner-up Lawson by 12 points, while the Chillicothe boys out-tallied Maryville by 14 points (135-121) in the team chase.  The Trenton boys had 63 points to finish in 4th place, with the Lady Bulldogs scored 46 points to finish sixth.  Eight schools competed in the Benton Relays, including Lawson, Lafayette, Savannah, and Cameron.

Trenton High School had two individual wins on the afternoon, with Zane Rottman winning the boys 1600 meters with a time of 4 minutes, 52.10, while the girls 4 by 400 relay team of Tenna Roberts, Shayla Woodside, McKayla Blackburn, and Lexi Whitaker ran 4 minutes, 16.6 seconds to beat the runner-up time of Chillicothe (4:22.3).

Chillicothe victories in the girls meet from Benton included senior Whitney Clampitt in the high jump (5’6″) and Jaime Albertson in both the 100 meter hurdles (16.0) and 300 meter hurdles (48.3).

Trenton’s Whitley Richman was 2nd in the high jump, 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles, and 4th in the 300 hurdles.  Trenton’s 4 by 200 relay team of Thelma Guerrero, Tenna Roberts, Lexi Whitaker, and Shayla Woodside ran 1:54.10 to finish 2nd, behind St. Joseph Lafayette.  Lana Raymo of THS finished 4th in the 200 meter dash, while Mason Hooyman was 4th in the pole vault.  Trenton was 5th in the 4 by 100 girls relay.

For Chillicothe, Kennedy Corzette was second in the pole vault and 3rd in the triple jump and long jump.  Jordan Hibner finished 2nd for the Lady Hornets in the long jump.  Jylian Davis was third in the discus with Molly Jones second in the javelin.  Kylie Larson was 2nd for Chillicothe in the 300 hurdles.  

Nicole Jackson of Cameron High School was second the 1600 meter race, with 1st place finishes for the Lady Dragons coming from Khayla Hollingsworth in the 400 meter dash (1:02.20) and Hannah Robinson in the 800 meter run (2:32.10).

Highlights for the Trenton boys, in addition to Zane Rottman’s win in the 1600, was 4th place for Mark Trump and Dylan Harris in the high jump, third place in the pole vault for Isaac Harris, fourth place in the long jump for Austin Burkeybile, 4th place in the discus for Jadan Whitney, third place in shot put for Carson Burchett, and second place for Daniel Rodriguez in the 3200 meter run. 

Trenton’s 4 by 400 (Smith, Ewing, Whittle, and Radcliff) and 4 by 100 (Whittle, Sibbit, Ewing, Burkeybile) both finished in third place.  The 4 by 800 relay team of Rottman, Parrack, Smith, and Schilling was second place.

Joseph Zinkand of Cameron won the pole vault competition at 13 feet.

Individual wins were plentiful for the team champions from Chillicothe High School, with Walker Graves winning the shot put title (46′ 8.5″), while finishing second in the discus and javelin.  Brett Shaffer swept the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, earning 20 points for the Hornets.  Layne Worman won the 3200 meter race for Chillicothe, while the Hornet foursome of Rasche, Anderson, Forck, and Shaffer won the 4 by 400 relay.

Peyton Forck was 2nd for Chillicothe in the high jump, Jacob Anderson 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the triple jump, Isaak Rasche 2nd in the 400 meter dash, and William Perry third in the 3200 meter run.
