The Chillicothe junior varsity basketball teams got the better on Tuesday night, in girls and boys hoops competition from the CHS gymnasium.
In the opener, the Lady Bulldogs were able to hang with the Chillicothe JV for one quarter, trailing 6-4 after eight minutes. However, Trenton’s offense would struggle all night, scoring only 5 points in the second and third quarters combined before scoring 6 in the fourth, in a 46-15 defeat. Lexi Whitaker led the way with 7 points followed by Haley Kidd and McKayla Blackburn with 3 each and Maci Henson with 2. Trenton falls to 11-1 on the season.
The THS JV boys lost a hard fought game to the Chillicothe Hornets 51-41.
Chillicothe jumped out to an early 14-2 lead and would go into the half ahead of the Bulldogs, 21-13.
In the second half the Hornet lead would stretch to as many as 15 points, but Trenton put on the pressure, and fought hard to cut the deficit all the way down to just five in the closing minutes. Thanks to strong free throw shooting from Chillicothe, that’s as close as the Bulldogs would get. They went on to lose the contest 51-41.
“The boys did everything they could to stay in this one tonight,” said JV coach Kameron Cool. “We made sure they couldn’t ever put the game away because of how hard we worked. I was proud of my guys.”
The Bulldogs were paced by Carson Burchett who scored a game-high 17 points. Cole Schilling chipped in eight points, Kade Ockenfels and Dalton Burchett had six each, and Isaac Harris finished up the scoring with four points.
