The Chillicothe Hornets had three players (Cade Snyder, Jack Willard, and Westley Brandsgaard) all score 13 points, part of a balanced effort that led a a 58-37 win over Excelsior Springs, in Tuesday’s quarterfinal round from the Cameron Invitational Tournament.
Both teams started slowly, as CHS held only a 9-5 lead going into the second quarter. Tim Cool’s dominated that eight minute stretch, outscoring the Tigers 21-8 to take control of the game.
The victory pushes Chillicothe into an all-MEC semifinal with Maryville (Thursday – 7:00 PM), after the #1 seed Spoofhounds survived an upset bid by Smithville, beating the Warriors 58-53. John Zimmerman paced the attack of the ‘Hounds with 23 points.
The Higginsville Huskers, seeded second at Cameron, claimed a comfortable 70-52 win over Bishop LeBlond, while the Lawson Cardinals beat nearby rival Cameron, 72-55. Cody Glenn had 30 points and Zach Miller 20 for the Cardinals, while Griffin Mefford paced the Dragon attack with 23 points.
