The Chillicothe Lady Hornets earned a measure of payback against rival Trenton on Thursday afternoon, beating the visiting Lady Bulldogs 5-4 in a tennis dual in Chillicothe. The win evens the season series at 1-1, after THS won 6-3 over the Hornets on August 28th.
Key in the team win for the Hornets was the play in singles competition, with Chillicothe winning 4 of the 6 matches contested. At #3 singles, Hunter Keithley downed Samantha Mihalovich 8-5, while Hannah Zimmerman picked up an 8-4 win over Elle Neal at #6 singles.
Victories in singles play for the Trenton Lady Bulldogs were from Maddie Searcy (#4 / 8-5 vs. Macy Cavanah) and Emma Gilham (#5 / 8-4 vs. Lauren Gregory).
In doubles play, Trenton needed to sweep all three matches to grab the 5-4 win, but came up one match short of that goal. At #1 doubles, Utley and Dolan combined for a Bulldog win over Cypert and Keithley 8-1, with Mihalovich and Searcy, at #2 doubles, beating Reeter and Cavanah 8-3. Chillicothe clinched the match with an 8-3 win at #3 doubles for Gregory and Zimmerman (vs. Gilham and Latorrie Johnson).
The schools played six JV doubles matches, with Chillicothe winning five. Trenton’s team of Kendall Crowley and Latorrie Johnson split a pair of matches, beating Jocelyn Brady and Ali Kromeich 6-2, but being swept by Brynlee Faulkner and Olivia Lamp 6-love.
Other JV wins for Chillicothe High School were Kayla Distler and Kayla McElwee over Gwyneth Foster and Kennedy Wanstreet 6-2; Delaney May and Allision Ishmael over Carly Wanstreet and Bailea Jeannoutot 6-1; Avory Bloss and Megan Sisson over Jennnoutot and Amanda Parrck 6-2; and Ella Pohren and Brady over Wanstreet and Parrack 6-love.
