The Kansas City Chiefs 15-game winning streak, dating back to Christmas Day 2023, was ended Sunday afternoon by the Buffalo Bills, with a 30-21 final tightening the AFC playoff race.
Despite the loss, the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes remain confident in their ability to rebound, with Mahomes saying postgame, “The undefeated thing was cool, but that’s not our ultimate goal.”
The Chiefs, following February’s Super Bowl win over San Francisco, began the 2024 regular season with nine consecutive wins, although most came in less than impressive fashion. Seven victories were by one score, with four games decided on the final play of the game. On Sunday, the Chiefs luck expired, with Buffalo outgaining Kansas city by more than 100 yards. The Chiefs led twice in the first half, both times by just one point.
In one of the marquee moments of the NFL’s regular season, Bills quarterback Josh Allen scored on a 4th-down run with two minutes remaining, extending Buffalo’s lead to two scores, when a Kansas City stop would have given Mahomes and the offense the football needing only a field goal to win.
