The Kansas City Chiefs will have one of the most challenging schedules of any National Football League team in 2023, with a 17-game schedule starting with a home date with Detroit and ending with a trip to Los Angeles announced by the league on Thursday night. While not the most difficult, as that honor, going off of 2022 records, goes to the reigning NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, the Chiefs 2023 opponents had a combined record of 147-140-0 (.512) last season.
In a recent tradition, the Chiefs, as the reigning Super Bowl champion, will have a Thursday night home game to kick off the regular season, with the NFC Central’s Detroit Lions headed to Kansas City on September 7th. Following the visit from the Lions, the Chiefs hit the road for a rematch of last season’s AFC Divisional Game, playing in Jacksonville against the Jaguars on September 17th. The Chicago Bears will pay a visit to Arrowhead Stadium in September 24th, before a pair of challenging road games face the Chiefs, with a trip to New York to play the Jets on Sunday Night Football on October 1st, followed by trip to the north on October 8th to duel with the Minnesota Vikings.
In mid-October, the Chiefs are home for back-to-back games, with Kansas City on Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime against Denver on October 12th, before the Chargers travel to Arrowhead Stadium on October 22nd. A trip to Denver to play the Broncos for the second time in three weeks follows on October 29th. After the trip to Germany to play Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins on November 5th, the Chiefs get a bye week.
Week 11 to see a Super Bowl rematch on Monday Night Football, as Philadelphia is at Kansas City on November 20th, with a game at Las Vegas against the Raiders on November 26th.
The month of December opens with a game in Green Bay on the 3rd (Sunday Night Football), with Buffalo at Kansas City on the 10th. A Monday Night Football test at New England is on the night of the 18th, with Las Vegas at Kansas City on Christmas Day, and Cincinnati at Kansas City on New Year’s Eve. Kansas City will close out the regular season at the Los Angeles Chargers on the following weekend (date and time TBA).
In the 2023 preseason, the Chiefs play at New Orleans in Week 1 and at Arizona in Week 2. In Week 3, the Browns play a visit to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Other highlights to the 2023 NFL schedule includes Aaron Rodgers’ debut with the New York Jets on Monday Night Football against Buffalo for Week 1, and the NFL’s first “Black Friday” (Day after Thanksgiving) game on November 24th, with the Jets hosting the Dolphins. The Jets will appear on six nationally televised games, including the Chiefs on NBC’s Sunday Night Football on October 1st.
A rematch of the NFC Championship Game (49ers-Eagles) is slated for Week 13 with the AFC Championship rematch (Bengals-Chiefs) on Week 17.
A Thanksgiving tripleheader will feature three divisional games, with the Packers at the Lions, the Commanders at the Cowboys, and the 49ers at the Seahawks.
Three games will be played on Christmas Day, starting with Las Vegas at Kansas City, followed by the Giants at the Eagles and the Ravens at the 49ers. Three will be three Monday Night doubleheaders in Weeks 2, 3 and 14.
Philadelphia’s opponents winning percentage of .566 gives the Eagles the toughest 2023 schedule, while the Atlanta Falcons, out of the woeful NFC South, have an opponents winning percentage of .417, giving Atlanta the ‘easiest’ schedule.
