The Miami Dolphins made a pair of trades on Tuesday afternoon, acquiring veteran running back DeAndre Washington from the Kansas City Chiefs and shipping wide receiver Isaiah Ford to AFC East rival New England.
Washington, a former Oakland Raider, was acquired via free agency by the Chiefs this offseason, but was finding playing time difficult, with the addition of Le’Veon Bell perhaps the final strike to end Washington’s brief time in KC. In addition to Washington, the Chiefs sent a 2021 seventh-round pick to the Dolphins, with Miami sending back a 2021 sixth-round selection. The deal occurred just before the deadline for NFL trades in 2020.
The trade of Ford to the Patriots was more of a surprise, with the 6-foot-2, 194 pounder seeing time as Miami’s starting slot receiver for much of the 2020 season, with 18 catches for 184 yards. The acquisition fills a need for the reciever-needy Patriots, struggling to score points in the first-season in the post-Tom Brady era. The Dolphins and Patriots had not made a trade since the Pats acquired Wes Welker from Miami in 2007.
