The impending return of wide receiver Hollywood Brown to the Kansas City Chiefs active roster means the end of the KC portion of the career for running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Brown has been activated off of injured reserve by the Chiefs and is expected to make his regular season debut for Kansas City on Saturday, when the Houston Texans will make at appearance at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.  Brown was felled by a sternoclavicular injury on the first play of the first preseason game of the season at Jacksonville.  He was approved to return to practice last week.

Expected to be a key downfield threat to pair with first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy, Brown was coming off of a 51 catch season for the Arizona Cardinals in 2023.  His best season, with the Baltimore Ravens in 2021, saw 91 catches for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns.

Brown’s move to the roster meant the release of Edwards-Helaire, who has spent the 2024 season on the non-football injury list.  The former LSU Tiger and native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana was quickly snapped up by his home-state New Orleans Saints.

With LSU in 2019, Edwards-Helaire had 1,414 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns for the national champion Tigers, and become a first-round pick of the Chiefs in the following spring’s draft.
