Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice surrendered to police on Thursday, facing charges including aggravated assault after he and another driver allegedly caused a crash involving multiple vehicles on a Dallas highway last month. Rice turned himself in at the Glenn Heights Police Department and was booked into the regional jail in DeSoto, later being released on bond.

Rice’s attorney, Texas state Sen. Royce West, confirmed his surrender and emphasized Rice’s cooperation with law enforcement. West stated that Rice acknowledges his actions and expressed deep concern for those injured in the accident.

Arrest warrants were issued for Rice, 23, on charges including aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily injury, and collision involving injury. Rice was driving a Lamborghini SUV during the crash, while SMU wide receiver Teddy Knox, 21, was driving the other sports car involved, a Corvette. Knox is also facing similar charges but was not in custody at the time of the report.

The crash occurred when Rice and Knox were allegedly speeding in the far left lane, causing the Lamborghini to lose control and hit the center median wall, resulting in a chain collision. Both drivers allegedly left the scene without checking on the other parties involved or providing their information.

Rice, originally from North Richland Hills, Texas, played college football at SMU before being drafted by the Chiefs in the second round of last year’s NFL draft. He had become a dependable option in the Chiefs’ passing game following a breakout senior season in college.
