Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to a team source. Omenihu, who joined the Chiefs for his first season, had a notable performance in the game with a sack and a forced fumble before leaving in the first half. Despite initially being listed as questionable to return, he was later ruled out due to the knee injury.
Omenihu had been enjoying the best season of his career, recording a career-high seven sacks in the regular season despite playing in only 11 games. With Omenihu sidelined, the Chiefs are expected to rely on rookie Felix Anudike-Uzomah, their first-round pick. While Anudike-Uzomah has limited playing time this season, he is known for generating pressure and being effective against opposing rushing attacks. Additionally, veterans Mike Danna and Malik Herring are likely to see increased playing time.
The Chiefs secured a victory over the Ravens on Sunday and will now face the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on February 11.
