Another Kansas City Chiefs starter, this one on the defensive side of the football, is leaving via free agency. Six-year NFL veteran Damien Wilson, a starting linebacker on the 2019 World Championship and 2020 AFC Championship teams, has signed a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, giving Urban Meyer’s new team added depth at the postseason, where he joins Myles Jack, Joe Schobert, Shaq Quarterman, and Quincy Williams in the mix for playing time.
Wilson visited the Jaguars on Wednesday before signing on Friday morning. Jacksonville is in search of quality linebackers, as the team is switching to a 3-4 defense in 2021. Wilson spent two seasons with the Chiefs, starting all 16 games and three postseason games in 2019, and starting 13 of the 16 regular season games in 2020, and adding all three postseason games, including Kansas City’s Super Bowl 55 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Prior to his time in Kansas City, Wilson, a product of the University of Minnesota, spent four years with the Dallas Cowboys, who selected him in the fourth-round of the 2015 draft.
