The Kansas City Chiefs survived five touchdown passes by rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson on Sunday night, but left for home with the status of Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce and young wide receiver Chris Conley up in the air due to injury.
Conley’s injury appears to be the most serious, with Head Coach Andy Reid saying that the University of Georgia product “looks to have a ruptured Achilles”. Conley, against the Texans, had three catches for 46 yards before being injured with just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Kelce took a helmet-to-helmet hit int he first half, when he caught eight balls for 98 yards. After being evaluated for a concussion, Kelce did not return in the second half. Coach Reid said that at halftime, Kelce “complained about his memory”, adding he “remembered everything in the injury tent, but didn’t have it in the locker room, so we chose to hold him out”.\
In more minor injuries, wide receiver Albert Wilson dealt with fourth-quarter leg spasms. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill (ankle) and linebacker Justin Houston (calf), are “both fine”, according to Reid.
Back-up safety Steven Terrell was inadvertently kicked in the head on the game’s opening kickoff, suffering a concussion.
At 5-0, Kansas City is the only unbeaten team remaining in the National Football League.
