Buoyed by a momentum seizing goal-line stand in the second half by their elite defense, the Kansas City Chiefs remained unbeaten with a 27-20 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The decisive stand followed an interception thrown by Patrick Mahomes late in the third quarter that gave the Raiders, needing a touchdown to take the lead, a first-and-goal from the Kansas City three-yard line. At the time, the Chiefs held a 17-13 advantage.
The victory extends Kansas City’s winning streak to 13 games, including the playoffs, since a Christmas Day home loss a year ago to the same Raiders. At Allegiant Stadium, including February’s Super Bowl win over the 49ers, the Chiefs are 6-0 since the building’s opening in 2020.
Kansas City (7-0) had 262 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns from Mahomes, as the Texas Tech product and three-time Super Bowl champion became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 30,000 yards. Tight end Travis Kelce had 10 catches for 90 yards and a touchdown catch, the 75th of his career.
Las Vegas (2-6) has lost four consecutive games, but the Raiders reached 20 points for a first time since a 20-16 win over Cleveland on September 29th. Gardner Minshew was 24 of 30 for 209 yards and two touchdowns for Las Vegas, but was sacked five times. Jakobi Meyers had six catches for 52 yards and a touchdown for the Raiders.
