The Kansas City Chiefs, looking to add quarterback pressures from the defensive line, have signed veteran defensive end Carlos Dunlap to a one-year contract worth up to $8 million. The Chiefs struggled in getting to opposition quarterbacks in 2021, ranking 29th out of 32 teams in sacks.
Seattle released Dunlap in March, saving money against the salary cap, as the University of Florida product was owed $5.1 million for 2022. He had 8 1/2 sacks for the Seahawks last season as 32 years of age.
Drafted in the second round of the 2010 draft by Cincinnati, Dunlap spent the first decade of his career with the Bengals, before a trade to the Pacific Northwest in 2020. He comes to Kansas City closing in on triple-digits in career sacks, with 96 on that board.
Dunlap will join a defensive end group that lost Melvin Ingram, signed by the Miami Dolphins in the offseason, but did add George Karlaftis as a first-round pick out of Purdue University in the 2022 NFL Draft.
