General manager John Mozeliak gave only a few details into the decision, saying the move was made after recent issues that popped up.
After the 2019 season, Shildt had signed a three-year extension with St. Louis, with the 2022 season the final year on the deal, however Mozeliak had was not a factor in the decision.
