The Trenton Bulldogs, after losing a mid-game 5-1 lead over visiting St. Joseph Christian, scored three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to claim an 8-5 Monday night victory at Burleigh Grimes Field.
THS started quickly, with a pair of runs in the 1st and 3rd innings, and an single run in the 2nd, adding up to a 5-1 lead. Starting pitcher Mason Rongey was cruising until hitting a troublesome 5th inning.
Down 5-1, the Lions scored four times to chase Rongey, who left with four-plus innings of work, with five runs allowed and two strikeouts. However, only two of the runs were earned, as the Bulldog defense struggled, with six errors in the course of the game.
Camden Skipper relieved Rongey in the fifth and was superb, tossing three innings of one-hit baseball while striking out four batters. Skipper’s pitching allowed the Bulldog offense to rally, with came in the bottom of the 6th inning.
The Bulldogs had 11 base hits in the course of the contest, with Sager, Wilson, and Rongey all picking up two base knocks. Wilson scored twice, with Rongey, Wiggins, Miller, Skipper, and Taylor adding runs.
