The Trenton High School girl’s basketball team, riding a strong 29 point night from junior Maci Moore, including her 1,000th career point, were victorious on Tuesday night, while the third-quarter struggles for the Trenton boys, continued, in a 76-33 loss, in the quarterfinals of the Lawson Invitational Tournament, broadcast on Hot Country Z 101.7.
Both games saw the Bulldogs take on the West Platte Blue Jays, with the girls final 46-32, improving Trenton to 7-4 and dropping West Platte at 1-6. Chandler Lynch had nine points for the Lady Bulldogs with Lexi Whitaker adding six. West Platte had 11 points from Katy Tharp and nine from Gretchen Raney.
The boys game from Lawson High School started well for both the 3rd seeded Blue Jays and 6th seeded Bulldogs, as the teams battled to a 13-13 tie after one quarter, with an 10-3 spurt late in the first half giving West Platte the 30-24 advantage at the break. However, for Trenton, much like the storyline developed in an early January GRC loss at Gallatin, the loss of momentum going into halftime continued into the third quarter, as West Platte’s full court pressure forced the Bulldogs into a rash of turnovers, with a 30-5 edge in the quarter for the Blue Jays putting the fourth quarter into “running clock”.
West Platte, in improving to 7-4, was paced by 20 points from Miles DeMayo and 15 points from Brayden Cogan. Trenton, now 2-10 on the campaign, had 9 points from Gavin Roeder and eight from Jaren Whitney.
