A young Trenton High School boy’s tennis team is showing great promise early in the 2021 season, opening the campaign on Wednesday with a sweep of the Cameron Dragons, 9-0 in varsity action.
Trenton was particularly dominating in singles play, as #2 entry Trent Villacampa (over Brett Henry) and #3 entry Jonin Villacampa (over Spencer Pratt) cruised to 9-0 victories. Freshman #1 singles player Bradyn Sager had a spirited battle with Caden Hanrahan of the Dragons, before emerging with an 8-5 decision.
At #4 singles, Trenton’s Riley Walker beat Samuel Smith 8-1, with Maverick Sole of the Bulldogs, at #5 singles, downing Isaak Perkins 8-1, while Dylan Smith of THS, at #6 singles, took an 8-1 decision over Cameron’s Alexander Shaw.
The doubles competition proved to more competitive, as Trenton’s #1 team of Sager and Trent Villacampa beating Hanrahan and Henry, 8-3, Jonin Villcampa and Walker combining, at #2 doubles, for an 8-5 triumph over Pratt and Smith, while Sole teamed with Victor Markell for an 8-5 win over Perkins and Shaw.
In JV competition, Trenton swept a pair of singles matches, as Dylan Smith and Victor Markell both took 6-0 decisions over Cameron freshman Riley Ragan. Trenton will host the Savannah Savages on Monday afternoon.
