The Brookfield Lady ‘Dogs shot 228 on their home course Tuesday afternoon, outdistancing rival Marceline’s score of 251 and Trenton’s 255 in a triangular to open the 2021 girls golf season.
Brookfield boasted the top two scores from the nine-hole course, with medalist Carly Clarkson shooting 50 and Mallory McCabe 52 for BHS. Marceline’s Tess Sheerman finished in third place individually with 54, with Trenton freshman Reece Weldon shooting 55, good for fourth place overall, and the top result for the Lady Bulldogs.
The other sub-60 score came from Brookfield’s Maggie Bennett at 59. In order, the remainder of the varsity scores were Josie Chumbley of Trenton at 61, Jada Taylor of Marceline at 62, Mari Atup of Trenton at 65, Madelynne Bond of Marceline at 66, Brooke Falconer of Brookfield at 67, Taryn Morris of Brookfield at 68, Sarah Wright of Marceline at 69, and the Trenton duo of Morgan Brown and Sofia Currie both at 74.
Out of the five varsity players for each team, the top four scores were used to create the team total, with the worst score among the five tossed out.
Brookfield had three JV players on the course Tuesday, with Scarlet Polson shooting a strong 52, Ella Thompson 59, and Maddie Boles 72.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Gallatin traveled to Lawson, with Courtney Crose leading a balanced Lady Bulldog squad with a runner-up total of 53 shots, followed by Elle Copple at 54, with Brianna Filley and Madison Kirk both at 59, and Kylie Stagner 64.
