The 41st annual Gallatin Invitational Tournament is underway, with the Braymer Bobcats taking a pair of quarterfinal victories on Monday night, with the Lady Bobcats rolling to a 61-29 win over Maysville, while the Braymer boys took a 68-58 triumph against archrival Polo.
The Lady Bobcats rode a 25 point effort from sophomore Jasmine Taylor, with Emily Youtsey adding 13. The win sends the Braymer girls into a Thursday afternoon (4:30) semifinal, most likely against Class 3 state-ranked Trenton, who opens tournament play against Winston at 4:30 on Tuesday afternoon. Maysville drops to the losers side of the bracket, for a meeting with the Trenton-Winston loser on Wednesday night at 7 o’clock.
The Polo girls against #3 seeded Hardin-Central, with the Lady Bulldogs winning 53-19. Julia Finney had 15 points for Hardin-Central, with Izabell Anderson scoring 12, and Ashton Markley 10 points. Emma Howard had 7 points to pace Polo. Hardin-Central advances to a 7 o’clock semifinal against the Gallatin-Gilman City winner, with Polo playing on Wednesday at 4:30 against the Gallatin-Gilman City loser.
The top-seeded Winston boys looked strong on Monday night, cruising to a 63-20 win over Hardin-Central. Jacob Lewis led the ‘Birds with 23 points, with Logan Caldwell scoring 13, and Jakub Hisel 10. The Winston boys will play Braymer in a Thursday afternoon semifinal at 5:45. Braymer advanced with a 68-58 win over the Polo Panthers. Hardin-Central and Polo will meet in a boy’s consolation round game on Wednesday at 5:45.
Trenton and Gallatin’s teams will be on the court for four quarterfinal games tonight (Tuesday night) from the GHS gymnasium, with the THS Lady Bulldogs playing Winston at 4:30, followed by the #2 seed Trenton boys battling Gilman City at 5:45. The Gallatin Lady Bulldogs entertain Gilman City at 7 o’clock, with the Gallatin and Maysville boys finishing off the quarterfinal quadruple-header at 8:15.
