The Braymer girls and boys opened play at the 2016 Gallatin Invitational Tournament with victories on Monday night, with the Lady Bobcats downing Gilman City, 75-29, while the Bobcat boys claimed a 64-49 win over Hardin-Central. Other final scores from the first night of the GIT were the Winston boys over Gilman City 72-26 and the Hardin-Central girls over Winston, 43-21.
The Braymer Lady Bobcats raced away from Gilman City with a 28-3 edge in the second quarter, cruising in the second half with a fourth-quarter running clock. Jasmine Taylor led BHS with 25 points, with Kelsey Stone scoring 14, Emily Youtsey 13, Maggie Phillips 11, and Gabby Seal 10 for the Lady ‘Cats. Future NCMC Lady Pirate Hailey Burrows had 20 of the 29 points scored by the Ladyhawks.
In the Hardin-Central girls victory over Winston, McKenzie McBee and Julia Finney paced the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points. Sophie Pliley had 14 points for Winston.
The Braymer boys, in the Bobcat victory over Hardin-Central, placed three players in double figures. Jordan Miller scored 20 points, Austin Hall 14, and Keaton O’Dell 13 for BHS. Ryan Layman had 29 points to pace the Bulldogs. Zack Pearon added 11.
The Winston boys picked up 30 points from Jacob Lewis and 14 from Cy Uthe in their win over Gilman City Cornelius Perry led the Hawks with 11 points.
Tuesday night’s quarterfinal action from the Gallatin High School gym will feature doubleheaders between Grand River Conference schools Trenton, Polo, Gallatin, and Maysville.
The #1 seed Trenton Lady Bulldogs play Polo at 4:30, followed by the #2 seed Trenton boys against Polo at 5:45. At 7 o’clock, the #2 seed Gallatin Lady Bulldogs battle Maysville. The 4 vs. 5 boys game between Gallatin and Maysville follows at 8:15.
