Trenton’s Nate Swann earns state medal at Class 2 golf meet in Sedalia

Trenton’s Nate Swann played superb golf in the Class 2 tournament, just missing out on a top 10 finish, with a score of 157 putting Swann in 14th place, earning him a state medal courtesy of a finish in the top 15. Trenton’s Cree Mullenix, with a two-day score of 173, finished in a 54th place tie, while Lathan Croy, with a two-day total of 175, tied for 61st place among 92 boys competing in Sedalia.

The Bishop LeBlond Golden Eagles, with a team score of 602, are the new boy’s golf Class 2 state champion, routing runner-up Springfield Catholic over two days of play from the Sedalia Country Club.  Springfield Catholic’s total was 648, well behind LeBlond, while third place Hermann was at 650.  Maryville, out of the Midland Empire Conference, shot a score of 663, good for fifth place.

Playing in less than ideal conditions, golfers in Sedalia battled consistent rain showers and chilly temperatures over 36 holes and two days, but were able to play the full two-day tournament unlike Class 1 and 3.  

Jack Parker of Tolton Catholic shot 141 to win the Class 2 individual title, followed by LeBlond’s Hank Lierz in the runner-up spot with 145, and Tanner Edler of Blair Oaks in third place at 146.

Rain washed out the final day of the Class 3 state tournament in Springfield, leaving MICDS as the state champion, after a Monday score of 309. Pembroke Hill was second at 316, with Nevada’s 325 good for third place.  The Class 3 individual champion will be shared by Jack Litzelfelner of Notre Dame Cape Girardeau and Michael O’Keefe of MICDS, both at 70.

Like Class 2, Class 4 at Bolivar was able to play both days of the state championship tournament.  Springfield Glendale won the team title at 627, with Noah Michael Anderson of Columbia Battle High School, with a score of 148, winning the individual state championship.
