The Kansas City Chiefs are bringing back offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy on a one-year contract for the 2022 season, resigning the long-time assistant after his contract expired after the Chiefs loss to Cincinnati in the AFC Championship Game in January.
Bieniemy has struggled to find a first head coaching opportunity in the National Football League, despite interviewing with several franchises over the past three years. He has been on Andy Reid’s staff in Kansas City since 2013, with the last four seasons leading the high-powered offense led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
This offseason, the 52-year old Bieniemy interviewed with the Saints and Broncos, but was passed over for other candidates.
Bringing back Bieniemy will keep some consistency in the coaching tree for the Chiefs, who lost quarterbacks coach Mike Kafka to the New York Giants in February. Kafka is now the new offensive coordinator in the Big Apple.
