The Milan Wildcats ran into a Scotland County buzz-saw on Tuesday night, giving up five first inning runs and falling 10-0 to their longtime Tri-Rivers Conference rival, in semifinal action from Class 2, District 6 at Canton.
The victory sends Scotland County into the District 6 title game, Wednesday night at 6 o’clock, against the unbeaten #1 seeded Canton Tigers. Canton beat Putnam County in Tuesday night’s first semifinal game, 10-5.
Canton is 17-0 on the season, Scotland County is 11-3.
Tuesday night’s games were the last baseball contests played for Scotland County, Milan, and Putnam County as members of the Tri-Rivers Conference. The TRC will disband this summer, as Milan and Putnam County join the 16-school Grand River Conference, while Scotland County will join Knox County and Schuyler County in joining the soon-to-be nine-school strong Lewis and Clark Conference.
Rain has played havoc with the three-team Class 1, District 15 baseball tournament to be played this week in Purdin. After two straight rainouts, the Northwestern Eagles are set to play the Linn County Mustangs in a first-round contest at 6 o’clock on Wednesday night. The winner advances to the championship game to play top-seeded Macon County, Thursday afternoon at 4 o’clock.
